Employment Opportunities at Mostly Math

First things first:

We realize that, relative to many organizations and job postings, this section is lengthy. However, the way we see it is that Mostly Math provides professional services, and our employees must be highly committed. If you are willing to take the time to read and follow our application requirements to serve yourself in this process, then you will be willing to go that extra mile to serve your students.

Applicants should read this entire page carefully to learn how to properly apply for these positions. Applications that do not include the required information or do not follow the procedure outlined below will not be considered.

Tutoring

At any time, we may have a small number of part-time positions (2-10 hours per week) available. These positions often begin as casual positions, but for the right people who can please their students and generate their own referrals, hours can quickly multiply.

All serious job inquiries may be directed to Ms. Sarah Bartram by sending an email to sarahb AT mostly-math DOT com. Please note that a high level of comfort using email and regular email access is required for any position at Mostly Math. Consequently, we accept resumes by email only, either as an attachment or within the body text of the email itself.

We thank all applicants for their application; however only the most suitable candidates will be contacted.

Please apply if you meet all of the requirements listed below:

  • All of our tutors must be comfortable tutoring up to and including first year university mathematics (Calculus and/or Statistics and/or Linear Algebra). Preference is given to tutors who can also tutor Science and/or English to the same academic level. Please note that we only hire tutors who can tutor advanced mathematics. Even our English tutors, for example, must also be math tutors.
  • Our tutors should have at least three years of recent Canadian tutoring experience and good references from former students. We want tutors who know what goes on in the classroom and are familiar with not only the curriculum, but with ‘favoured’ test questions.
  • We do not require our tutors to be certified teachers – we are more interested in people with tutoring experience, which is very different from classroom teaching experience. Even teachers with several years of experience must clearly demonstrate their tutoring experience. To get an idea of what we mean, read about our Private Tutoring Services to decide whether you think you are a good fit.
